History
Abacus Solutions was founded in July of 2000 as a global IBM iSeries AS/400 and RS/6000 brokerage house with the goal of providing hardware solutions from an ethical company that truly represented their customers' best interests. The IBM product lines were our origins and created a foundation for rapid success and growth that allowed us to quickly expand our inventoried product lines encompassing Cisco, IBM Storage, IBM xSeries, HP-9000, HP ProLiant, and Sun. This allowed us to provide server, storage, and networking solutions to a variety of customers, including leasing companies, business partners, consultants, end-users, and other wholesalers.
As the IT industry increasingly became 24/7/365 oriented, we adapted to our clients’ needs with more direct interaction, enhanced offerings, and custom services. In 2006, to facilitate this shift in business, we consolidated our sales and technical operations into our current headquarters in Marietta, GA – a 35,000 sq. ft. space housing sales, support, technical lab, warehouse, and datacenter. We developed committed partnerships with dozens of leading manufacturers to provide vendor-neutral and best-of-purpose IT solutions. In addition, the Abacus AS/400 cloud was born out of this new corporate headquarters focusing on housing and hosting disaster recovery and high availability environments. We quickly grew into other datacenters and production workloads and have become an industry unique IBM i Platform as a Service solution provider. With these resources and partnerships, we established ourselves as one of the Southeast’s largest privately held IT solution providers, selling hardware, solutions, services, cloud, support, and more.
In 2014, Abacus expanded our local solution and advisory business into a new company, the Cumberland Group, to provide the solutions necessary to align and link rapidly changing business and technology landscapes. Since then, Cumberland Group has rapidly grown into one of the largest enterprise IT solution providers in the southeast. 2020 brought about further changes in company structure with the separation of our hardware brokerage business from our cloud and managed services business. Abacus Hardware Group was created with the focused commitment to provide customers with expertly refurbished enterprise IT hardware and white-glove technical support. Both business carveouts (Cumberland Group and Abacus Hardware Group) allowed Abacus Solutions to continue to focus on our core mission: Run the last 10,000 IBM i environments with, and for, our customers.
